I want to make a scarf.  An entrelac scarf.

Not such a hard thing to do under normal circumstances.  But I decided to use Red Heart Boutique yarn.

It's so pretty!  But man, is it hard to use.

I'm trying NOT to let this stop me.  But in three nights, I've only been able to do three rows.  I wanted a minimum of ten, but at this point, I'm ready to use it to hang myself with it.

I WILL get this done. . . that's going to be my mantra. . . 

POTHOLDER MANIA

Really--is there anything better than making potholders when you're watching a super bad B movie on Netflix?

I adore this pattern by Claudia Lowman!  Fanciful Flower Potholders is one of those patterns that's addictive. . . you can't make just one.  And they're so pretty!  You just kinda have to sit back and admire your handiwork for each one you make.  Then decide which friend is worthy enough to be given such a wonder of cotton to grace his or her kitchen.

I went through this same addictive potholder crochet mania a few years ago.  This was before I discovered the magic of B Movies on Netflix and the Syfy channel.  The lovely, bright colors of the sturdy cotton yarn. . . set against the backdrop of CGI sea creatures decimating humans. . .just a fantastic combination!  And so entertaining!  The bad science alone will keep you in giggles.

Man, am I old or what?  I'd rather have yarn and a movie on a weekend night!

Ribbed Square

Using worsted weigh yarn and an H hook, 4 rows of Round 3 makes a 6 inch square. To make a square of another size, duplicate Round 3 until square is 1 inch smaller than required, then add HDC row.

Ch 4, connect with SL to form ring; 

Round 1:  Ch3 (counts as first DC throughout) 12 DC in ring, Connect with SL in top of original Ch3  

Round 2:  Ch3; FPDC around post as SAME DC in previous round. *DC in top loop of next ST; FPDC in post of next DC in previous round* 2 times (this results in 2 st per DC of 1^st round, DC in top loop, FPDC around post) Ch2, DC to make corner . *FPDC in DC; DC in loop 3 times, make corner* 3 times. Connect with sl to 3^rd stitch of ch to connect

(12 DC, 12 FPDC, 4 ch2 sp)

Round 3:  Ch 3; FPDC around FPDC of previous round, DC in DC. After last FPDC, DC in next loop, ch2 and DC in same ST to make corner. Continue like this around square. Connect with SL in ch3

(20 DC, 12 FPDC, 4 ch2 sp)

Rounds 4-5:  Same as Round 3

Round 6:  ch2, (counts as first HDC)BACK LOOP ONLY. HDC in back loop only of next 10 stY, HDC in each st of previous round to corner; to make corner, HDC, DC, HDC in ch 2 space. Continue around block in this manner. At last stich, HDC in same ST as SL, HDC, connect with SL.

Bad Year

And so, that means things can only get better, right?

So far this year I've lost cherished relatives, almost lost my house (still in jeopardy) and just found out last week that my closest uncle has inoperable pancreatic cancer.

But, you know what? Time to stop hiding out and being miserable, I have to make the best of all the world has to offer--even more, have to believe that the world still has some really wonderful things to offer.

Throughout these last hellish months, through all the deaths and illnesses and financial crisises, I've found out that I have some pretty amazing friends and that I have truly been blessed with some fantastic people in my life.

It's time for me to stop wallowing in self-pity and become part of the real world again. Enough with all this hiding out!!!

I've let a lot of people down, and I've got a lot to make up for. And it's time to do just that.

Things to do. . .

I have a list!

1. POST OFFICE Monday--I've got stuff that's way overdue to be mailed out. Thank heavens I have such patient friends!

2. I sat myself down and put my aunt's afghan together. I decided it's my memorial to her, and so it's all put together. Next--the border. I just can't think of how to do it, though. She was SUCH a perfectionist, it has to be perfect!

3. I made it through the week without buying any new yarn! But, now I have to figure out what to do with what I bought last week. LOL--I self-medicate by buying yarn! I have the gorgeous moss colored wool/soy blend that I want to make an afghan out of, just can't figure out a pattern. Football season will be here before I know it and I need to have warmth for me, my mother and my younger son so we can cheer on my oldest in marching band. Oh--and I'll need one for his girlfriend as well. yikes, ya'll that's FOUR afghans by October!

4. I don't have to do the kitchen stuff for my aunt's friends anymore, so now I have all these spools of cotton yarn. I wouldn't mind making any of the stuff, but she didn't give me a list before she passed away, so I have no idea who to make for. Maybe I'll just make up a bunch of them for family.

5. The sock--screw it, I just don't have time for that. . . and I sure don't need the frustration right now. I did get halfway through one, but man, those suckers are beyond annoying!!!!!

And there, ladies and gentlemen is my latest to do list. Lets see how far I get on this one!!!

Too Cool (in a geeky-crochet way) not to share!

Anyone that's crocheted anything knows that the standard way to start a new row is to turn and chain three. It's okay, but the edge is usually not really that straight. . .

Well, here's a way to start a row with a double crochet--with NO chain three AND a very neat edge!!!
